Last May Patsy O’Brien donated 100% of the proceeds from all cd sales and digital downloads to help fund The Peru Project. He has posted a report (with photos) online that gives you a clear picture of the situation there, how the money and time was delegated, and what more can be done.

The Peru Project

Thank you all!!

From May 17 to May 31 2007, I was in Ate (”at-ay”) on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. This trip was made possible by your generous contributions and support through CD sales and downloads.

Lima is one of the poorest cities in South America, with over 60% of the population unemployed and an average wage of less than $150 per month.

Following the terrorism in the countryside, nearly two thirds of the country’s population (over 27 million) moved to Lima, creating a “poverty belt” around the inner city.

I was one of a dozen volunteers who were involved in, among other things, building a community center in the heart of the slum for the impoverished families. Each volunteer raised $1700 (EUR 1300) to pay for :

bricks and mortar
a social worker for a year
basic vaccinations.
