Leuthold Couloir Sunrise Shadow

This is a sweet shot of the shadow cast by the mountain over the Columbia River Gorge and Portland area at sunrise. The following photos (10) are from a climb up the Leuthold Couloir route on the southwest side of Mt. Hood taken by Steve Bernal. Steve started up the mountain with his snowboard around 4AM under clear skies and a nearly full moon. The snow-covered mountain was beautifully bathed in moonlight and no headlamp was necessary to make the climb. He climbed up to the summit, then snowboarded back down. According to Steve, "The conditions were great the entire way up. The ride down was hard and icy--not ideal, but it was still better than walking."
