Mount Hood, Oregon

Posted by Jo-anna Horn, March 24th , 2006.

MtHood06.jpg

At 11,237 feet, Mt. Hood is the tallest mountain in Oregon. It is 45 miles east-southeast of Portland, Oregon and popular with skiers, snowboarders, hikers, and climbers.

Check out photos taken and submitted by some folks who live to enjoy the mountain. There are some snowboarding shots taken at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort (Photos submitted by: Shannon Reddoch, Laura Davis, Matt Davis, and Brian Walsh). Pictures submitted by Steve Bernal document his climb up the Leuthold Couloir Route to the summit of Mt. Hood. There are also a few photos taken on hikes on the mountain including the lower part of Multnomah Falls. At 620 ft, Multnomah Falls is the second highest year round waterfall in the United States and Oregon’s #1 public destination.

Check out all the photos here.

LocalWorksMSP (Minneapolis/St. Paul): Project Moon Unit

Posted by Jo-anna Horn, March 23rd , 2006.

Michael Blaha, an artist in Northfield, Minnesota has been constructing his “Project Moon Unit” by utilizing alternative building materials, mainly cob. He has documented his process from the very beginning. It has grown into an amazing structure. Elm City Hot Glass provided some glass to be used as a tiny part (a “window”) of this amazing project. See the Moon Unit here.
Be sure to check back for updates on this project.

Cane is glass that has been stretched into rods. “Pulling cane” is the process of stretching the glass while it’s hot.
To see photos of this process taken at Old Town Glass in Portland, Oregon, go here.
